Elijah House gets its name from Malachi 4:5-6 in which God says, “I will send Elijah who will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of their children to their fathers (paraphrase).” Elijah House is a ministry that helps us as individuals discover who God created us to be, by restoring our relationship with God. It helps us discover our identity by healing the wounds that exist inside our hearts that prevent us from walking in a closer relationship with God. The Elijah House School helps train individuals to use prayer as part of their everyday ministry to the people around them. The Elijah House School also helps us recognize how God is working in our lives, our loved ones, and in the communities we participate in. It awakens us to the reality that God wants us to participate in the plan that He is carrying out, and that we are blessed by walking in step with Jesus and His Spirit who has made His home inside of our heart! Jesus came to reconcile a broken people back to a loving God, and the bible says that we inherit the mission of reconciliation for our Savior, Jesus. Elijah House helps equip people to be able to participate in that same calling by giving them biblical principles and a loving atmosphere to apply these principles to their lives.
Elijah House was established by John and Paula Sandford over 40 years ago and is now based in Spokane Washington. There are schools hosted all over the United States and in many countries around the world.
Prayer Ministry is important because we are powerless to change who we are and where our lives are going. That was true before we stepped into a relationship with Jesus and it is just as true even after we enter into a relationship with Him. We need His Spirit, who has made His home inside of us, in order to change anything about who we are. When we pray, we are asking God to do a miracle inside our hearts in order to break the patterns of sin that have remained in our lives. Psychology tempts us to believe that being aware of a problem will somehow change the problem, and then leaves us to figure out how to do it. The truth is that knowing can be helpful and is sometimes necessary, but only serves to focus our prayers toward the problem. It is only through the power of the Cross and a relationship with Jesus and His Holy Spirit that we can see the miracle of a changed heart!
A certified Elijah House prayer minister is an individual who has completed both Course 201 and 202 of the Elijah House Prayer Ministry School. They are able to support their home or regional church community by meeting with people and walking them through principles of inner healing. Prayer ministers can help others reconcile with God and other people in their lives. Elijah House prayer ministers are an amazing resource for facilitating healing within the church and encouraging the leaders of the body.
